Fabius-Pompey Outreach was started in 1988 when Jack Daly and the late Judy Conway saw a need in the community. The late Judy Conway stated in the 1988 Syracuse Post Standard members of six churches in the Fabius-Pompey area are working together to see to it the elderly, poor, and isolated people in their community feel cared for. They started with a few donations and each church collecting food at the first Sunday of each month. They would meet once a month at each committee member’s house to review the needs in the community and ways to match those needs.

Over the years the Outreach has done many activities to raise money, from selling Geraniums which they are still doing each spring, tree with paper ornaments listing items needed, bake sales, to wreath sales at Christmas, coin collection jars at local business, and crop walk. We now get food from drives at the Pompey Rod & Gun Club, boxes at Post Offices and churches, and donations. We also purchase food from the Food Bank.

The Fabius-Pompey Outreach has provided thousands of meals since 1988. They have provided transportation to appointments, clothes, shoes, backpacks for school children, nursery school tuition, holiday gifts, holiday baskets, financial support to those how have lost a house to a fire, emergency financial help, help with energy, housing and medical expenses, repairs to homes, food, help finding other assistance. Confidentially is a major component of the Outreach operations.

Without donations from the community this program would not have succeeded over all these years. Flo Daly once recollected, “We got a request when funds were low and by the next day a donation came in to cover the request.”
